Mother, 47

Daughter, 2

Family #1 is from: Gloucester City, NJ

About the Family:
Family number consists of a mother who is currently fighting Breast Cancer. She has three young children. Their father is in the military and is currently not in the US, but does have contact with the children, who miss him terribly. The family is severely struggling under the weight of the added cost of mom's medical situation and her constant need for additional child care for her three young children, as she's been having an extremely hard time caring for the kids without help and has needed live-in care during multiple periods of her treatment. Mom is currently unable to drive due to her condition and is having a really hard time - their church was able to come help the family put up a tree and lights, but the family is requesting assistance with gifts for their three kids under 6 who are very much expecting a visit from Santa and don't really understand the situation their family is going through right now. Mom is scheduled for another major surgery at the end of Dec (after Christmas) so she REALLY wants this Christmas to be a good memory for her and her kids.

Family Wishlist Items: The family would really appreciate donations of grain-free dog food for their two small elderly dogs  -the dogs have eaten a variety of brands of food, but their grain-free diet (due to skin allergies) is more expensive, and the family desperately does not want to re-home their dogs whom they've had since they were puppies, as both dogs are over 15. An organization is helping with FREE dog walking while mom is in treatment thankfully -but they could absolutely use dog food.

Family #4 is from: West Deptford, NJ
About the Family:
Family #2 is a single mother, age 31, living in West Deptford NJ. She lives with her mother (the kids maternal grandmother) and had moved back in when her father passed away right after her son was born and her children's father was arrested and jailed for a domestic violence incident which left mom and their daughter in the hospital after he had caused a serious accident in their vehicle, on purpose as a result of an argument that he had with Mom and her Mother. He is still incarcerated and was sentenced to 5-7 years, a sentence he will likely serve 70% or more of.  Since the incident, Mom has filed for divorce and the kids are both in therapy and working with both a counselor and social worker to help them adjust to life without their father in it. Mom has been in therapy herself, and stressed in her application for assistance for her kids this Christmas that she is no longer trapped in the toxic relationship and that she wanted to use this opportunity to share with others that there IS hope - that women who find themselves staying in unhealthy or abusive relationships CAN learn to recognize the patterns that they've fallen into and that they CAN be better parents, and better people overall by learning to better identify toxic traits and concerning behaviors in both herself AND the people she was choosing to have relationships with, as this was not the first unhealthy and abusive relationship she had been in.

When we spoke to mom about her family being chosen for sponsorship this holiday - she said that she really wanted us to share a few things in her family's biography so that for those who might see her family's story, especially donors who might consider helping her kids to have a good Christmas this year despite her current financial situation, will understand that she's doing everything humanly possible to never need this kind of assistance in the future - and that she's working on EVERY aspect of her life so she can be a better provider for her kids in every way - not just financially, but ALSO financially.

Mom said that this is the first time in her entire adult life that she's been single- and that she's extremely proud of having remained single for over 12 months. She also stressed that she currently has NO plans to get involved in another relationship any time soon, and she wanted donors to know that she is taking her current life situation very seriously. Mom stressed that she is treating her current situation after almost losing her life- as a second chance, and that she's treating everything that she's been through exactly the same as people treat addictions to drugs and alcohol. She said that she had been in a constant string of toxic and abusive relationships since she was a teenager, and that getting better for herself and her kids, meant addressing WHY she was choosing to get involved with people who were unsuitable and that she is really focusing on changing the type of people she's around, the type of people she trusts, and that she is absolutely dedicated to working on herself and getting her and her children back on solid ground - emotionally, mentally, and bettering their education and her income - before she even entertains getting involved with any relationships going forward.

Mom said that she wants to stress that she recognizes and takes responsibility for "the serious lack of judgement and many years of poor decision making that STARTED when she choose to date a man that she knew had a prison record and was regularly using illegal drugs and drinking, and that she absolutely should have known better than to have not only stayed in that toxic relationship even though just weeks into the relationship she had not only been cheated on - but had already begun being physically abused, but that she also made the conscious decision to stop taking birth control in an attempt to have a baby with that man - not just once - but twice. She says that she KNEW he was abusive, and that she put herself through hell, having had two miscarriages before ultimately having two children.

Mom credits twice a week therapy that she's participated in, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy as having saved her life and given her a second chance at having a "real and worthwhile life, not to mention allowing her to actually be a good mother, the kind her kids always deserved to have." She says she wants others to know that they CAN change, that women do not need to "settle" and "accept victimhood" - that while it can be "easier' to tell yourself that you're the one with a black eye and a man that's out cheating and putting her at risk of STDs, but that she also eventually became aware that her fiancé was driving with her children in the car, both while in possession of, and often under the influence, of drugs and/or alcohol, and that at that time - she truly believed that she was a victim of all of those circumstances and that she had completely blocked out thoughts, and ignored and cut people out of her life who tried to tell her that she needed to make better choices for her life to improve. She wants others to know that they do NOT have to live a life of victimhood, just because getting out is HARD. She credits the attack that almost took her and her daughter's life, as being the driving force that caused her to reevaluate everything in her life.

She was forced to either go to court to petition the court to drop the charges, to bail her fiancé out of jail, and to take whatever abuse would come as a result of him having been arrested in the first place - OR - she had to call her mother, and to apologize and face over a decade of choices that she herself had made, that had lead to that situation - and that although it was hard at the time to humble herself and to ask her mother for help - she wants to let other abuse victims know
"The people who really love you, will be there for you when and if you are REALLY ready to step up, to get help, and to take responsibility for all of the horrible things you've done to yourself  - you have to acknowledge and REALLY recognize the hell you've put your family through for all those years" She said that she was EXTREMELY fortunate that her mother was willing to take her back, because they had barely spoken over the past seven years due to her own choice to cut her mother off because her mother refused to enable her irresponsible behavior. She thanks and fully credits her mother for "saving my life and my kids lives" - because the social worker had been very clear. If she went to the jail to bail her fiancé out the day after the car crash - the state was going to take her children to a foster home. Mom said that was the exact moment that she really was a good mother for the first time in her kids lives - because she didn't think about herself, what she wanted or what was easy - she thought ONLY about what was best for her kids, and that getting a restraining order (that had been offered to her on at least three other occasions by police officers called to deal with fights in their home) - and that she FINALLY made the right choice - and that she got out of there, taking her children, and only what she could pack in a few hours that evening, and that she went to her mother's home, where she asked her mom for forgiveness, and that she asked for help for the first time ever - telling her mother that she was absolutely serious about changing her life.

I spoke to her mother briefly at the end of our phone interview - her mother (her children's grandmother) wants to stress that she's EXTREMELY proud of the changes her daughter has made in the year and a half she's been back living at home. She said that her daughter has WILLINGLY taken over two dozen different classes, courses and voluntary programs through children and family services - everything from anger management and conflict resolution, basic parenting classes, to attending both individual and family counseling with her four year old daughter, and that the changes she's seen in her daughter have been "EXTREME and INCREDIBLY REWARDING" after so many years of watching her daughter making "the worst possible choices, and allowing herself to be put into SO many situations where she could have sex trafficked, in jail, on drugs, or even dead." Grandmom said that she's EXTREMELY proud of her daughter, who's learned how to cook and now makes healthy family dinners for their entire family. She said that her daughter has begun to exercise, she's lost weight and completely changed the diet that her and her children were eating ("Them kids used to live off Burger King, and she had let them eat just garbage and candy - it was awful." She stresses that her daughter is now enrolled in a nursing program, and is working part time for an adult care facility, and that above all else - her daughter is FULLY focused on her two children. She shared with me that she had taught her daughter how to sew   when she was a little girl -  and that in October, she and her daughter together, handmade her granddaughter a Halloween costume that took several days to complete. She said that it was one of the best weeks in her 74 years of life and that she's "incredibly grateful to have her daughter back.

The kid's Grandmom says that her daughter "REALLY AND TRULY IS doing EVERYTHING a human being can do to turn their life around at She was never a drinker, she wasn't out partying, she wasn't doing drugs, thank god - but her addiction to relationships with abusive men was "every bit as destructive and had destroyed every aspect of her life - it might as well have been an active addition in the way that it had ruined her physical health, her mental health, her relationships with her friends and family - and that it had made her an absent mother, because despite her adult daughter physically being in the same home with her two young kids - her daughter had NEVER . The grandmother wanted to stress that despite how bad things had been - that her daughter is COMPLETELY unrecognizable now, from who she had been when her son was born. She said that at the time, her daughter had been so angry with her mother (who had repeatedly demanded that she leave her drug addict fiancé due to the financial, physical and sexual abuse - and her DEEP concerns about the risk that her granddaughter was being subjected to). Grandma says that therapy for the little girl, with and without her mother & grandmother, has helped to address her granddaughter growing up with almost entirely no supervision and no healthy role models, and no stability or routine whatsover.

Grandma says that many of the horrible parenting choices her daughter had been making. She says that for the first two years of her life - her granddaughter was FREQUENTLY left with unsuitable and often unpaid "babysitters" - many of whom her daughter BARELY knew. She says her daughter was kicked out of Facebook groups and off of apps used to hire babysitters after she had REPEATEDLY left her daughter - even twice leaving her OVERNIGHT in the care of people who were ultimately strangers, and that her daughter had burnt so many bridges - leaving her daughter with sitters that were never paid, leaving he

Mom said that she admits that the reason she can't afford to give her young children a good Christmas this year is ENTIRELY because putting her young children at risk despite having known for years that her then fiancé prioritizing repairing her relationship with her own mother that was fractured when, as a teenager, she ran away and was living with her then "Boyfriend" who was ELEVEN years older than she was (she was just 16 at the time, and had gotten involved with a man 11 years her senior)

She requested "Lots of Costumes and a big box for dress up stuff so I can be anybody I want". We're currently trying to find a a large trunk or toybox that will work to hold a collection of dresses, Halloween costumes, props and kids beauty products that we can put together for her. Mom says she regularly plays dress up/pretend with her cousin and a school friend and that she loves that this keeps her off screens and being creative, so she wants to encourage her to continue her passion for dressing up / playing pretend and being fun characters. She said her daughter loves to dress in wild costumes and put on "shows" for anyone who will watch."
(Editor Comment - I think this  or a combo of these would work great for holding all her "dress up clothes, costumes and accessories:

Family #5 is from: Little Egg Harbor, NJ
About the Family:
Family number 5 are a mom, dad and three young sons, ages 4, 7 and 9. Their oldest son was diagnosed with leukemia at age 7 and has been battling for two years. The family previously lived in North-Western PA, but moved to South Jersey to be closer to their son's doctors at CHOP in Voorhees / Philadelphia. Unfortunately, their son's ongoing battle with a challenging health problem, as well as the significant amount of time he's had to take off from school - has also meant that mom had to leave both of her job as a dental assistant and part time librarian assistant at a school

Family Wishlist Items:

According to both parents - all three of the boys are absolutely obsessed with Roblox and play regularly with their father on his days off. The boys would all absolutely love to have Robux, but mom stressed -if one of them gets a gift card, all three of them would have to have the same amount or the boys would be completely crushed. This is a great option, as it gives three separate $15 cards, so each of the boys could receive their own.
Robux Gift Cards -  Three Pack of $15 Cards
The boys all liked playing board games together at their grandma's this past summer - but the family doesn't have any at home and would love some games that are age appropriate for the boys.
Pop-amatic Trouble Board Game $7

All three boys collect Monster Jam Monster Toy Trucks and they would absolutely love (and play together) with the Monster Jam Garage Playset $55.99

All of the boys are also huge fans of Lego, and their parents said a general large mixed-Lego kit would be ideal as the boys often build their own custom things but don't want to take apart their already finished and built sets to build new things. This Large Lego creative Builder kit includes 500 Assorted pieces is $64 and has lots of common and also some specialized parts, to allow the kids to create buildings, vehicles, and anything else they can dream up. The kids have gotten Christmas gifts before from Santa "for them to share" and mom and dad both said these gifts have gone over well and been shared between the boys well in the past.

Son, 9- Their son, who recently turned 9, has been battling leukemia for two years. He's described by his mom as "an extremely sweet, medically fragile child who's extremely sensitive and emotional as a result of the many medical traumas he's endured since his diagnosis. It was originally thought that he would respond well to treatment, as his condition was caught and diagnosed pretty early - however, his treatments have proved to have an extensive array of physical and psychological side effects that have been lasting - not to mention the massive amount of debt incurred by the family because mom had to leave her job, the entire family chose to move to be closer to their son's doctors in Philadelphia, and he's missed a lot of school and has been struggling as a result of falling behind his classmates (after having previously been among the top students in his grade, and participating in the gifted and talented program). Despite working with a tutor, and getting a lot of classwork to take home, and a lot of extra attention from his parents, he's often felt so poorly during and after treatments, taking a multitude of medications, procedures and hospital stays, he almost had to repeat his grade level and it's been a LOT
  • LED Strip Lights to decorate his bedroom $15

Family #7 is from: Glassboro, NJ

About the Family:
Family number 7 consists of Mom, Dad and two daughters, and recently they accepted temporary (long term) care of their three nieces, as their mother was recently placed in a long term care facility after a traumatic incident that uncovered severe mental health and memory issues due to a severe neurological disorder. The family is in therapy together, as well as individually, as they are all working through the crisis incident that lead to their mother's hospitalization, which has severely impacted the two youngest nieces, as it was discovered that they had been suffering severe neglect, including a lack of medical care, severe food restriction and other issues (the 16 year old daughter had been living with an aunt on her father's side of the family, and returned home to help her sisters after the situation with her mother was discovered.

The entire family is suffering with the severe effects of trauma surrounding their situation and the added cost of taking on three additional pre-teen/teen girls has been significant. The family had to move to a larger apartment to get custody of the girls (or else they would have been separated and placed in foster care!) and this sudden added cost has left the family unable to afford basically anything for their girls this holiday. The family all feel very fortunate just to be together -but they were recommended for assistance by a teacher who knew the two younger girls, after she found out what had happened and why they had stopped attending school suddenly last year. The family has accepted our offer to assist them this holiday, and they insist they would be thrilled just to give each of the girls a stocking with some small bath & body products for each - and that the girls would absolutely be grateful for anything they receive as they are all just trying to find a "new normal".

All of the girls absolutely LOVE a HUGE variety of crafts and crafting / DIY and creative projects -  from creating art, to home decor, to cooking, baking, sewing and more. They all insist they would be EXTREMELY grateful to have/share any art supplies, and we asked the family to ask each of the girls for a handful of bath/body products and art supplies they would specifically love to have.

Family Wishlist Items: As an end-result of taking on not only their three nieces, but also the girl's two cats, the family could use help with the added cost of the new pets (they had very few supplies to bring with them), both cats were recently spayed, but they do new several new supplies that would REALLY assist the cats AND their family members on adjusting to their new home. The family said that an electronic litter box would be their "BIGGEST WISH LIST" item, as they would all significantly benefit from having it. The family could also benefit from assistance with the additional cost of feminine hygiene products now that there are 6 women in the house who need them monthly!

Items Needed for the whole Family:
Here are some items this family needs that we do not currently have - they can be ordered directly to us from our Amazon Wishlist.
(Some items have already been purchased / removed from this list. Items shown below are still needed):

The entire family REALLY enjoy Tic-Tacs and take them to school (and mom takes them to work -she's a nurse but is currently on leave while the family deals with the girl's transition to their new home and the family's move).
  •    Huge Holiday Family-Pack Case of Tic-Tacs Candy $28
  •    Pro-Activ Acne Patches $11/per pack

  • Herbal Essence Shampoo and Conditioner 2-Pack $24.21

Girl, 10 (Mom asked me to include a note with her youngest nieces list that explains the following info. I chose to include the exact note that she sent, so she is being quoted here directly (*with names and other important info redacted):

"My youngest niece still believes in her Elf and Santas visiting. When I talked to her older sisters and my girls about this holiday not happening this year I spoke to them separately because ---- and ----- had both already come to me, worried because their little sister still believes.

When I talked to the girls about my concerns about our financial situation and our inability to buy gifts this season, I did explain that Christmas was going to be spent together in our new apartment and that because of the move, Aunty ---- and Uncle ---- didn't have money left to buy gifts and we wanted the girls to know well ahead so they weren't disappointed this holiday.

The first thing ---- (her youngest niece) said was: "Its okay, I have my wish list to mail Santa and he will bring me a present because I got really good grades AND I didn't have any cavities this whole year." I tried to steer her requests to be more reasonable items but a few of the things she "really really wanted" are more expensive so please let everyone know that she just doesn't understand money or our situation so some of these toys on her lost are too much money. I don't want anyone to think shes a greedy girl, she's genuinely so sweet and kind and we don't want to spoil the magic for her just yet, especially after the two years her and her sisters have had with losing ---- (her sister/the girls mom)."

Project Christmas Director's Note (I tried to include several smaller sets that her aunt confirmed that she doesn't have - as she's an avid collector of these little animal toys - so hopefully donors could get some of the smaller sets!)

Children Needing Sponsors!

** How can you help get kids OFF the waiting list? **

SPONSOR A CHILD - SAVE THEIR CHRISTMAS!
Donate to our GoFundMe or Order from Our Amazon Wish List

The more quickly these things happen, the more quickly we can clear our waiting list.

This year, in addition to the families we're assisting - we're putting individual children on our sponsorship plan. Some families are struggling with funds and while they may have gotten assistance from other programs with one or more of their children - they have others who have very few, or no gifts at this time. We are continuing the same processes we've always followed - in an attempt to help bring Christmas to more families and children, by changing our program to help collect items (both needs and wants) for children of all ages - even if their family does not need full sponsorship, or we're unable to provide full sponsorship. This program also allows families to redirect their limited funds towards items needed/wanted that aren't able to be provided by our Angel Donors - helping these individual children is a fantastic - and EASY way for you to DIRECTLY help a LOCAL NJ child in need. Items collected for these children will NOT be split-up, redirected, etc - items donated will be delivered SPECIFICALLY to the child you've chosen to sponsor. And unlike Angel-Tree Programs - children ARE NOT removed just because someone purchased an item or items from their list.

Because we believe the wants/needs listed are all REASONABLE requests for a child at Christmas - we WELCOME and ENCORAGE people to select items they CAN AFFORD - and WISH to DONATE - and if it takes FIVE or TEN different donors to help fulfil a child's Christmas wishes - we're perfectly happy to do organize/coordinate to make sure the children get ALL the items donated for them.

If you're ordering through Amazon - you do NOT have to include directions about which child the items are for - but you are WELCOME to do so if you prefer. We are able to check which items have been fulfilled for a child - and which wish list items are requested and by whom. If you are dropping items off during our donation drive (420 Commerce Lane- Unit 4 - West Berlin NJ 08091 - PLEASE mark your donations with the child's reference number OR  - if you don't mark items - we'll match them to a child or family that needs or wants that item - NOTHING will be wasted - ALL new/unused/giftable items WILL be distributed to families we're assisting.
