Our 2024 Families
Family #1
Mother, 34 Father, 39 Son, 5 Daughter, 7* Daughter, 12 Son, 13 2 Cats Family #1 is from: Lindenwold, NJ About the Family:
Family number 1 is a family of six living in Lindenwold NJ. They lost their home in 2023 after they had been living in a property for years that belonged to a relative. When that relative died, the person who inherited the property said the family would either need to pay 3.5 times the rent they had been paying, or they would need to move and the family was given only ten weeks to move out. They left Pennsylvania, and moved to NJ where the father had a job offer, and he's been working full time as a medical assistant and is also in school working on a nursing degree. The family has four children, two sons (13 and 5) and two daughter (12 and 7). The family was referred to us by a police officer after the family suffered a break in, to the family's rental, which left the home with SEVERE damage and a large number of the family's personal items were taken, or damaged/destroyed. The bedroom belonging to their oldest son was set on fire, and although the fire burned out quickly, thankfully without damaging much outside of the room - their son had saved up for several birthdays to buy a game system which was subsequently stolen during the break in. The oldest son, 13, had a VR gaming system that was his prized possession, on which he played a ton of games with online friends. His parents said that their son has had a long history of being bullied at school, and his closest friends were online friends that he gamed with regularly. Losing his system and being unable to play with those friends has left him depressed and although we don't typically assist families with expensive gifts such as this one - we are really hoping to be able to replace his gen 1 Oculus that was stolen with a newer Generation 3 system. Several police officers who work with the officer that took the initial report have contributed a total of $165 towards us buying the replacement Oculus game system. We still need to raise approximately $300 to be able to get the new system. His parents have both said that if we were able to do this for him - he would be perfectly fine with getting no other gifts, but of course we would still like to provide him with some other small gifts to open Christmas morning. If anyone is able to donate the game system - those who have already contributed have asked us to use their contributions for other items for the family. Mother, 24
Father, 24 Son, 16 Months* Son, 4* One Small Dog Family #2 is from: Wenonah, NJ About the Family:
Family number two is a mom and dad with two young children, sons age 4 and 16 months. Their 4 year old son has Cystic Fibrosis and is on the Autism Spectrum and has spent a lot of time in and out of CHOP. being treated and seen for his condition. He is currently receiving multiple in-home therapies and has a nurse who visits their home weekly to help with breathing treatments. Their 16 month old son, fortunately is healthy, but he is currently being evaluated for possible Autism Spectrum disorder or ADHD (and a number of other conditions) as he's behind on multiple milestones. The family has been struggling with missing a lot of work due to both of their young sons medical needs. Mom and Dad both work full time, but have absolutely no sick or vacation time and have to take unpaid leave any time their boys require them to be home for additional days - and both are at risk of losing their jobs and are currently looking for other work in their fields (Mom was a full time teacher but is currently acting as a long term substitute in a private school, and dad works at a factory as a line supervisor). Son, Age 4* (Is on the Autism Spectrum. Mom says that he struggles with personal care like bathing and brushing his teeth so anything that makes those things more "fun" REALLY helps - they are asking especially for bath toys, bubble bath and anything that can add texture / colors or fun to bathtime as it's the ONLY way he enjoys bath time and changing up the fun things really helps to make his baths go much more smoothly. New fun soaps, finger paint soaps, etc - anything like that REALLY helps,

Family number three are two parents and their three children, currently living in Camden New Jersey. The family has been working hard to renovate their family home after significant storm damage during Hurricane Sandy when a large part of their roof collapsed, and part of their home was unable to be occupied for almost a year and a half while the family worked together to make the repairs. The family has been struggling to keep their utilities and cell phones turned on, despite dad working two jobs. Mom has stayed home with the kids, but now that the youngest is in full-day elementary school, she is looking for part time work as well. The family was referred to us through the food pantry where mom and the oldest son volunteer regularly and where they attend church as a family. Family number four is a grandmother who over the summer of 2024 suddenly got custody of her three grandchildren, ages 15, 11 and 7 when their mother was deemed unable to care for them. She was referred to us by a DCF worker who has interacted with the family on multiple occasions and described their grandmother as "Loving, dedicated, hard working but overwhelmed and trying to make the best of the situation for the kids". We are hoping to help reduce some of her stress by being able to provide gifts for the this holiday season. We don't currently have a ton of details about the kids, but their case worker did provide us a list of the kids interests and she will be delivering the items to the family just before Christmas as their grandmother doesn't know that we've offered to sponsor their family. Family #5
Father, 33
Daughter, 6 Daughter, 3 Small Dog (Senior) Family #5 is from: Salem, NJ aAbout the Family:
Family number five consists of a single father and two young daughters living in Salem, NJ. They were referred to us by a state DFS worker, after the children's mother was arrested and jailed for child neglect. Their father had previously lost contact after their mother had moved more than sixteen times in the last three years, and he was unable to find his ex and his children, only occasionally able to find updates or photos of the girls posted online by relatives. The girls mother left them with a relative and didn't return for several weeks, at which time a missing persons report was filed, and the girls were turned over to the foster system until they were able to locate the girls father. Their father is a hard working mechanic who was devastated to have lost contact with his girls after having their mother taken into custody on drug charges after he came home from work and found her and a friend overdoses, and his two daughters in complete disarray, having not been cared for or fed since the previous day. After she was arrested, the girls mother took them and went on the run, initially lying to family members about being abused by their father, but he was thoroughly investigated, and had proof that the injuries she had blamed on him had actually occurred when she had tried to take drugs from a dealer without paying, and had subsequently been jumped by several people. After he was cleared by DFS, he gained full custody of his girls, and they have been settling into a rental since early September of 2024. While the girls' father works really hard, he has been struggling to adjust to being a single parent of two young girls. The DFS worker who referred this family described the father as "one of the most sincere and loving parents, willing to do anything for his kids, who's struggling more with the girls difficulty adjusting to suddenly having structure, rules, and healthy food in their lives after several years of constant upheaval, often being fed nothing but fast food, often being left on their own for hours at a time, or having had VERY little supervision even when they weren't alone. Both girls are currently receiving therapy and the six year old is now enrolled and attending school, and they are working hard to help her catch up to her peers as she was never enrolled previously and missed kindergarten and the beginning of fifth grade due to the circumstances of living with her mother. We're happy to be able to help the family. We already provided the family with a Christmas tree, ornaments, lights and decor so they could have their first Christmas together be one to remember. Mother, 44
Son, 12 Daughter, 10 Son, 8 1 cat Family #6 is from: Mantua Twp, NJ About the Family:
Family number six consists of a single mother and her three kids, living in Mantua Township, New Jersey. Mom has been struggling this year, ever since her hours were cut back severely at her job. She has been searching for a second job, and has been balancing which utilities to pay, as they have been cut off from electric and had their gas and internet, as well as mom's cell phone shut off several times. The family was referred to us by a worker at the local food pantry, where she regularly stops in to collect food, as they have been waiting for approval to receive food stamps. Mom has a high school diploma and currently works at a grocery store, but she was previously working at a Chiropractic office, but when the office closed, she had to take the first job that would start her immediately and she hasn't had luck finding other, better paying work with more regular hours that will accommodate her working around the hours when she needs to be home for her kids, as she also has been struggling to keep up with after-school program payments. The family is grateful for the help that's been offered to them through Project Christmas, and mom assures us that both she and her kids will be grateful for anything they receive as they have spent all of the kids lives working on a very restrictive budget. Family #7
Father, 39 Niece, 19 Daughter, 16 Daughter, 12 Daughter, 8 Daughter, 5 2 Med Sz Dogs (Senior), 1 Parakeet Family #7 is from: West Deptford, NJ Family number seven has had a REALLY rough year. The family consists of a single father, whose wife passed suddenly after a tragic multi vehicle crash, in which his two youngest daughters were also injured. His 19 year old niece (his late wife's sister's daughter) moved in with the family, and switched colleges to attend school here in South Jersey so she could move in with her Uncle and cousins, and help the family out during this incredibly difficult time. This is the family's first year celebrating the holidays without the children's mother, and they have been dealing with a massive amount of upheaval on top of their grief.
The two oldest daughters originally refused to give their father a wish list for Christmas, insisting it was "unrealistic", with the oldest (16) telling her father that she didn't want to put any extra pressure on him and that she just wanted to see her younger sisters have something to open on Christmas morning. She recently started a part time job working about 15 hours after school, but she is making less than $12/hr and is limited in the number of hours she can work due to child labor laws and school - in addition to being needed to help watch her younger siblings on the two days a week her cousin has afternoon college classes. We are happy to able to offer this family some relief from their grief, and to provide the older girls hope that their family can heal - we're proud to show them that our community recognizes the difficult things they have been through and we are glad that this family was referred to us by the medical staff at the hospital where the youngest was treated after the horrific crash that resulted in the loss of her mom. The girls know that an organization is helping their family this year for the holidays, but they have no idea that we fully intend to fulfil the wish lists their dad and cousin have helped provide-as each of the girls only listed ONE item that they wanted, hoping they might get that item. We already provided the family wish some Christmas decorations, as many of their Christmas lights were older and had stopped working. Family #9
Grandmother, 61
Mother, 35 Son, 19* Daughter, 14 Son, 9 No Family Pets Family #9 is from: Blackwood, NJ About the Family:
Family #9 Family nine consists of three generations sharing a home in Blackwood, NJ. This family was referred to us through their church's food pantry, as they've been getting assistance through the church where the Grandmother works full time. Mom is a receptionist for a Dental Office full time. Her 19 year old son is on the Autism Spectrum and requires a high level of care, he is non verbal and struggles with social interactions and is in a day program to assist him with daily life skills. Their teenage daughter has been helping out by working hours at the family's church with her grandmother, and is contributing to the family's ability to afford groceries, all while keeping on the Presidential Honor Roll at school. She attends a religious private school on a full scholarship. She plays field hockey and hopes to be in the Marching Band for her high school next year. The youngest son has had a long history of health problems, stemming from his severely premature birth (he was born at just 23 weeks old). He was adopted by the family through foster care shortly before his father passed away from cancer in 2019. The entire family moved to NJ this past year from the West Coast to help their Grandmother with the rising expenses of living alone and so Grandmom could help the family who was struggling after the sudden loss of the children's father from cancer. He passed suddenly only 8 days after his diagnosis, and the entire family has been struggling ever since. Covid was especially difficult, as Mom got a particularly severe case, despite being vaccinated early, and was hospitalized for 9 weeks, being on a ventilator for three. The family's medical bills for both mom and their youngest son have been a constant challenge and we are proud to be helping this very hard working and tight knit family this holiday season. We will have more information about this family available soon! (Just because there is no family info listed here DOES NOT mean that we don't have families currently going through the approval process -we're approving families as fast as we can!) Family #10
Mother, 32
Son, 4 1 Cat Family #10 is from: Vineland, NJ About the Family:
Family #10 Family ten is a single mother with her four year old son. They were living with extended family in Western Pennsylvania, before one of the adult male family members they were living with was arrested and convicted with charges stemming from illegal actions with a child victim. Mom moved out the day the family found out about the charges, in an effort to protect her child, but uprooting themselves meant leaving her job, and she has little other family for support. They have been relying on WIC / food stamps and help from a local church. Mom has been working her new job for twelve weeks, and will have to work 8 hours on Christmas due to having the least amount of time on the job - she is very much relying on Project Christmas for help supporting her son to have Christmas this year, as she was only just able to pay for the deposit needed for her gas/utilities for their rental. She currently has no regular transportation and is trying to save up for a vehicle. Her son's biggest (and only expensive) request is that he's been begging for a ride-on toy like a Power Wheels vehicle for years, as he's extremely obsessed with construction vehicles. Mom understands it's unlikely we'll be able to provide one, but I did tell her we would put it on his wish list in case a donor would be willing to help us purchase it for him!
